Top Three Countries Targeted for Foreign Investment – Surprise – China is NOT #1

Submitted by Bill Belew on Wednesday, 18 October 2006No Comment

If I were asked to name the country that is receiving the most foreign investment, I would say China, hands down. And, I would be wrong.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development recently revealed the top three countries targeted for foreign investment.

The top three targets are:foreign investment.jpg

3. China – $72.4 billion

2. United States – $99.4 billion

1. Britain – $164.5 billion.

So, what costs so much in Britain that would make companies pour more than twice as much into Britain is it does in to China?

Is anybody else besides me surprised by these numbers?

I am surprised Britain surpassed the US, but less surprised if Britain includes Ireland, which I am guessing it does?

I am not surprised, if you consider that severe regulations in some of the fast growing (globally) industries keep people from putting all they can into China.

Think about IPTV, mobile phone technology, cable tv and advertisement… China’s state funds most of the investment there, keeping foreign investment cold.

Also a lot of that stuff is severely restricted, just as it is in India, from large percentage of foriegn investment. So, de facto, the money doesn’t go there like it should. And also, if we just limit investment to this area, it is obvious that the technology is far more advanced in Britain and more expensive, requiring more capital.
