Chinapost reported the top ten countries that acquired businesses in China from July, 05 to June, 06.

Altogether there were 266 foreign companies from 41 countries that bought a Chinese company during that time. Money spent on the acquistions was $14 billion, up from $9 billion the previous year.

The top ten countries:

10. Taiwan – $166 million

 9. Australia – $234 million

 8. Japan – $242 million

 7. France – $321 million

 6. Germany – $399 million

 5. Hong Kong – $584 million

 4. Belgium – $756 million – this one surprised me…

 3. Singapore – $1.84 billion

 2. U.K. – $3.46 billion

 1. U.S.A. – $5.37 billion

I am not surprised that the US was tops, but I was surprised that Japan was so low, and that Belgium was so high.

Can somebody from Belgium tell me what they are buying?
