Tears, Wild Hair, Unhealthy Songs Banned!
The "Happy Boys Voice" competition in China, China's latest version of "American Idol" and the male version of "Super Girls" wants its contestants to be clean from the get go.
No tears, no wild hair, no unhealthy song, no weirdness, no vulgarity, no low taste….says the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.
Singers will be judged on whether or not they can sing. How novel!
China's "Super Girl" competition drew 400 million viewers and official and public criticism for promoting vulgarity.
I reckon if 400 million people watch, somebody is bound to find something they don't like, no?
All "Happy Boys" must be at least 18, and "their hairstyles, clothes, fashion accessories, language and manners should be in line with the mainstream values."
Sounds reasonable to me….let talent be the decider.
What do you think?

This is just one more reason Chinese pop culture does not hold any global relevance. It must be hard to express oneself in bold new way when an entertainer must be “clean”, wholesome, and sing “healthy” songs. Sanjaya’s faux mohawk would never fly with these rules.
