In about 7-8 months or so, Shanghai will be able to boast of having the world's tallest skyscraper, surpassing the Taipei 101 Tower.

The Shanghai World Financial Center will have 101 stories, reach a height of 492 meters (more than 1/4 of a mile) and have an area of 377,300 square meters.

Besides offices, it will have the world's highest observation platform, a five-star hotel and conference facilities.

It will stand alongside the 88-story Jinmao Tower in the financial and trade district of Pudong.

In time, will there be anything that China will not be able to claim to be number one at?
