Shanghai Wants New Christmas Tradition

Submitted by Bill Belew on Sunday, 24 December 2006No Comment

There is a group that wants to start a new tradition in Shanghai when it comes to celebrating Christmas.

"We've always celebrated Christmas in a western style. We go to bars or clubs with friends to celebrate the season. Christmas does not seem so special anymore."

Now the CEO of Metroer wants ot have a kid's party at a French-style park where customers can come and play childhood games – ride merry-go-rounds, drive bumper cars, and throw-up after being dumped off a whirly-gig.

Shuttlecocks, rubber-band dancing, hopscotch and roller skating…oh, boy!hopscotch.jpg

And there is a contest to see who will wear the most clothes.

Organizers hope that 300 people will attend…out of, what, 18 million. Doesn't sound like a great start to a new tradition to me.

How about…church? What a novel idea?

How about Christmas carols instead of karaoke (we do NOT do that to celebrate Christmas in the west)?

How about Christmas dinner with family? (we do NOT go to bars and clubs in the west)

How about the Christ in Christmas?

Why don't the Shanghaiese go back to find the real reason for the season?

Instead of something new…how about something old…2000 years old?

Jesus is what it is all about.

What do you think?
