Quota on H-1B Visas Filled for 2007!
If you or someone you know in the high-tech industry was hoping to get an H-1B visa this year – give it up!
How about next year? Give that up, too.
The Citizen and Immigration Services began accepting petitions for H-1B visas on April 1st of this year and exceeded the cap on May 26th…for 2007 applicants.
The next chance to apply for this type of visa will be April 1, 2007.
Stanford has complained about a a brain drain in Silicon Valley.
Microsoft has also complained about a lack of qualified workers.
Now, it has just become harder.
The hi-tech firms complain that they need the highly educated folks in specialty occupations in order to stay competitive.
US tech workers counter that an increase in the cap (from 65Kk to 115k workers each year) is unnecessary because it will bring down wags and discourage American youngsters from pursuing tech careers.
Keep the number the same? Raise it ? Lower it?
What do you think?
