Professional Beggars Earn College Graduate Wages

Submitted by Bill Belew on Tuesday, 24 July 2007No Comment

Beijing social workers want local residents to stop giving money to 'professional beggars.'

"Professional beggars will disappear if you stop giving them money," says a director for the homeless.

Yup, most people will eventually disappear if they stop getting what they want.

A beggar on the streets in China can make about 200 yuan a day = what a college graduate makes in a white-collar job.chinese.beggar.money.jpg

About 80% of passers-by say they have never given beggars money. But, when you consider how many people make up the other 20%…the beggars can

make a killing.

It has been said that some professional organizations bring in children from the countryside to use as beggars. In some cases, the children will be disfigured purposely in order to garner more 'charity' from the crowds.

When beggars were surveyed, 44% said they were unwilling to give up begging just to have three meals a day at a public aid center.

The beggars can make more money on the streets.

Do you give money to beggars?
