Per Capita GDP Target Hit 10 Years Early?

China expects to hit its per capita GDP target of $3,000 by 2010, ten years ahead of the target set by the 2002 Communist Party National Congress.

That figure will double by 2020 if the current growth is maintained.

China's per capita GDP went from $800 to $1000 in two years.

From $1000 to $2000 in four years.

China needs annual growth of 7.2% to realize $3000 per capita. And, the economy was believed to have expanded last year by 11.5%.

Last year, China's rural residents saw an 8% growth, the fastest in more than 10 years.

Still, there is a gap between the urban rich and the rural poor. Growth in the city – 13%.
