Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in China

OEM is short for original equipment manufacturers. This is when a company makes a product for others to repackage and then sell, most notably electronics.

A company can be quite successful in expanding business but it does not lead to great profits. After all, the company just makes the product.

If I were to ask to name an original Chinese brand, I would be at a loss. But, I am not alone as most businessmen outside of China cannot.

The China Brand Research Institute created a list of 3,104 Chinese companies. Of those companies only 143, less than 5% actually manufacture products under their own name.

No wonder, I am so stupid. There is not that many brands to know in the first place.

According to www.financialexpress.com the three most recognizable Chinese commodity brands are:

1. Gianz – a brand name for white goods – never heard of them

2. Younger Apparel Brand – never heard of them either.

3. Anxi Tieguanyin – oolong tea. I love oolong tea but strike three – I’m out.

How about you?

What Chinese brands do you know?
