Number One Fun Activity for Chinese Youth – Internet Surfing

Submitted by Bill Belew on Tuesday, 23 January 2007No Comment

The favorite hobby of Chinese youth these days is Internet Surfing.

Of the 137 million current Internet users in China, 100 million or more now have broadband access to do the surfing with.

Of the 2,952 respondents, 81% said they would rather surf the Net than read a book or watch TV.  Well, not watching TV is one step in the right direction… better if the direction were out the door, to the park, up a mountain, to the sea….chinese.youth.jpg

When the kids do read…21% do so before going to bed, 12% do it in the 'throne room' and 43% have no plan for reading.

Almost one in five (18%) Chinese youth have 5 hours of leisure time or more each day, twice that (36%) have 3-5 hours of 'chill time' and 37% have less than 3 hours.

That's a lot of time, in any event, for the kids to have to spend online.

I hope some of them come here to read.

Where do you do your Web surfing?
