No More Guaranteed Jobs in Tibet
Tibet was the last location in china where students who graduated from university were guaranteed a job.
No more.
Of the 2,730 college grads this year in Tibet, 700 are still looking for work.
During the era of central planning, only 1% of secondary students gained entry to a university and everyone who made it out was assigned a job.
That plan went out the window in Beijing in 1988 and most every other city in China by 2000. Tibet, the last hold out, can no longer guarantee jobs for all grads either.
This year China graduated 4.13 million students, up 750,000 from last year. Next year the number of grads will be around 5 million and almost one-fourth of them will not have an immediate job offer.
Times have changed in China. Even with the booming economy, a student has to work to scrounge up a job.
