There really is a Shangri-La, and it is in the southwest Chinese province of Yunnan.

Now there is a 2,000 square-km national park in Shangri-La mainly inhabited by Tibetans with "crystal-clear lakes, undulating mountains and gurgling streams."

The park was created for 200 million yuan to increase ecological tourism.

Plank roads have been built along the lakes to protect the grasslands.

Blacktop roads were built to serve as fire separation stripes.

There are seven solar-energy powered public toilets and the shuttle busesshangri-la.yunnan.jpg consume clean energy.

In the first ten months, already 600,000 visitors have come with half of the revenue going to

environment protection.

The world's first national park of about 9,800 current parks? Yellow Stone National Park, established in 1872.
