More Bullet Trains Wanted
China's Ministry of Railways wants more Bullet Train technology from Japan…this time for northern China, to connect Harbin to Dalian.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Hitachi Ltd., and East Japan Railway Co. are the Japanese firms that have been contacted about the advanced train technology.
China, of course, would like to develop its own technology for bullet trains, and active Chinese forums say that if China cannot develop the high speed trains themselves, then China doesn't need them.
What the forums are really saying is that they don't like China buying, borrowing or learning from Japan, even if the China pays for it.
However, it gets cold, -40C cold in northern China and it will be some time before China can develop a bullet train that can operated under such harsh conditions.
Japan can already do it.
China plans to build 7,000 kilometers of high-speed rail network over the next four years.
Japan hoped that mean a boon in business for them. However, China opted to try to do it themselves until they came to the Siberian Dalian-Harbin route.
Japan may get some business after all.
And, the Chinese forums will have something to talk about.
