GE to Cooperate with Tsinghua University on Ecomagination
Jeff Immelt, GE Chairman, said that GE is planning to cooperate with Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China’s top science schools (What do you think Tsinghua students, is it the top?) and alma mater of current Prez Hu Jintao, to to research for less environmentally damaging products.
Some of those projects are:
1. Coal gasification
2. Other energy-related fields
3. Water filtration technology
The project is part of GE’s "Ecomagination" initiative = GE is trying to sell more environmentally friendly technology, such as pollution control and generators powered by wind.
This is a good thing…one of America’s best teaming up with one of China’s best and if it starts with clean…it has a future. And GE and Tsinghua are thinking clean…..Great ideas in my book.
What do you think?
I think the environmental sector in China is one of the best sectors for growth in China and I think every foreign environmental services and product company ought to be looking at it.
The environmental sector is big everywhere…India – Russia…it would be good to get in to China now. It would be better to try to prevent disaster than to clean it up.
Dear Bill,
Jeff Immelt really knows how to position GE business in China.
Environmentalism is a hot topic in China and alumni from Tsinghua University are used to occupy key positions in the central government.
The academic ranking of Tsinghua University in China is similar to MIT and CalTech in the US. Tsinghua University has closely affiliated with Harvard, Insead, and MIT to conduct different educational programs for their students.
No doubt President HU appointed some of his old classmates or he was appointed by some classmates.
Thanks for the info about Tsinghua and as always thanks for visiting.
