Chinese students go abroad to study. In 2007, 144,000 headed overseas to study, up almost 8% from 2006.

Last year, 44,000 came home, up almost 5% from 2006.

Of the returnees, 8,500 went abroad on the government's dime or on scholarship.

Some 36,000 paid their own way.

Nearly 16,000 were funded by the government, a company or by a scholarship.

Since 1978, about 1.21 million Chinese have gone overseas to study.  Just one in four (26%) 319,700 have returned.

Presently there are 657,000 Chinese students studying abroad.

Are you a Chinese student studying overseas? Do you plan to go home?
