Tourists from Japan. South Korea Hong Kong and other SouthEastern Asian nations are flocking to Donghuang a city in NorthWest China’s Gansu Province.
The ultimate destination are ancient Buddhist caves to see the paintings.
Tourism is growing by 30% annually with 79,000 tourists last year and 71,000 already having visited this year.![]()
China Southern Airlines, Air China and Hainan Airlines will operate 370 charter flights during the peak season from April to mid October.
Hainan Airlines wants to help with the expansion and with promoting the tourism market in Dunhuang.
The cost of the expansion is abt $625,000.
Dunhuang was a major market on the historic Silk Road in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and is home to more than 800 grottoes that are at least 1,600 years old.
One of those grottoes is the Mogao Grottoes.
Tourism always has and always will be big business. I’d sure love to go and I am not even Buddhist.
How about you?
