Dalai Lama – Embarrassing China?

Submitted by admin on Sunday, 18 November 2007No Comment

The Dalai Lama visited Japan's holiest Shinto shrine in Ise, western Japan.

Embarrassing perhaps to China.

I thought the Dalai Lama was Buddhist.

Perhaps, China's leaders think so too.

And, what's with one shrine being holier than another?

Makes me wonder where the church I went to this morning is on the list.

It was the Dalai Lama's second visit to the shrine.dalai.lama.japan.jpg

The shrine is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami, the mythical ancestor of the imperial family.

The key word there, of course, is mythical.

The Dalai Lama said "Wherever I go, if time permits, I always pay my respect or pilgrimage to all different religious… temples."

Respect is good….

"I've fully committed promotion of religious harmony," he continued.

Harmony is a great buzz word in China.

Harmony in religion…give it up. It'll never happen.

The DL also said, "Religious faith is sometimes causing divisions and problems. (In the) meantime, all religions have the same message, the message of love … and the same potential to save humanity."

He's right…religions cause divisions and problems.

He's also wrong.

Some religions want to impose guilt on their followers, others grace.

Some religions have no chance of saving humanity and instead want them to wait till another better turn comes around.

And what about the Flying Spaghetti Monster – Where did the idea come from?

The DL bowed twice at the main shrine and purified himself with water.

The water was supplied by a small river inside the site.

Smells of compromise to me….trying to be all things to all people.

When that happens, there is no truth.

And, peace is not the highest priority…truth is.

Wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable.

China need not worry about the Dalai Lama as long as the exiled leader continues to embarrass himself.

Reminds me…Margaret Thatcher once said that people who stand in the middle of the road get hit by cars going in both directions.

Get out of the middle of the road, DL!
