Chinese University to Admit Future Teachers Based on Interviews

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 26 October 2006No Comment

Another Chinese university is planning to screen students and accept them for admission based on interview results instead of the national college entrance exam.

Fudan University was first. Jiao Tong followed suit. And now, East China Normal University (as opposed to the abnormal west university) will begin recruiting education majors next year based on interviews.

Applicants will be accepted based on communication skills and other abilities to become a good teacher. And, they are expecting to see these traits in 18 year kids?!

It’s a great idea…to train kids who WANT to be future teachers to be teachers.

In the past, the ECNU said their education majors often changed direction after the first year and many grads ended up taking office jobs.

Question: Who is going to be doing these interviews when several thousand potential kids raise their hands and announce "I want to be a teacher!"

What do you think?
