Chinese Spending More Online

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 11 January 2007No Comment

Chinese shoppers are getting much more comfortable buying online.

Last year China's 136 million Internet users (up 25 million from 2005) spent 276.76 billion yuan ($34 billion) on Internet services up almost 50% over 2005.

Chinese spend about 170 yuan a month on Internet connection, online shopping and online games.

The numbers come from a survey of 80,000 individuals, 900 companies and 50 categories.

The same report revealed that there are 20.8 million Chinese bloggers that are read by 101 million users.

Sina.com is still China's number one portal and Baidu is the search engine of choice, with more than 80% of users searching on it.

Baidu has 40% of market share in terms of online revenue. Google is far behind with 18% but gaining. Yahoo! China has already given up.

As the Chinese become more and more comfortable advertising and shopping online…170 yuan is nothing…these numbers will soar!

What do you think?
