Chinese May Spend $100 Each This Year Eating Out
Shanghai Daily reported that China’s 1.3 billion people may spend as much as 1 trillion yuan ($126 billion) eating out this year.
That comes to about $100 per person in China and up 13% from last year says the Ministry of Commerce.
In 1978 the average was 6 yuan – less than $1. After that came the economic reforms.![]()
For the past 15 years China’s restaurant sales have grown 10% annually. Sounds like a good investment.
Obviously the rich coastal Chinese eat more than the peasant countrymen.
Still, it doesn’t equal what Americans or Japanese eat. Americans and Japanese can put out $100 for one meal – a piece!
Asahi Japan Almanac says that Japanese budget about $125 per month per household just for dining out.
I wonder what the ‘middle class’ Chinese household spends?
What do you think?
