Chinese Couple Tries to Name Their Baby @
Wanting something unique and modern a Chinese couple tried to name their kid @.
Add to their wish list …stupid. But, then who am I to say. I am named after a denomination of currency.
The symbol @ is pronounced 'at' or 'at mark'. At in Chinese sounds like ai ta = love him.![]()
There's another reason perhaps…the 93 million people named Wang,
92 million named Li and 89 million named Zhang.
It's hard to be different in China.
Last year, only 129 surnames accounted for 87% of all names in China.
Chances are there are about 8.5 million people who will have the same last name as yours in China.
Police will decide which names can be used and which cannot.
In the US, personalized license plates are acceptable to police. They are easy to call out and easy to remember in a hurry.
Why not names, too?
"Did you get a good look at the guy who hit you?"
"Nope, but he had a name tag with @ on it. Does that help?"
