China’s Richest Teacher Wants to Buy A Couple of Colleges
Am I in the wrong country or what?
I thought China was a communist country and America was the land of capitalism.
Yu Minhong is called the godfather of overseas studies in China. He owns New Oriental School (NOS) – an English language training school in China that helps students prepare for tests to enter American colleges.![]()
Thanks to a $110 million-US-Dollar IPO in New York last month he is now the richest teacher in China.
NOS has 25 schools, 110 learning centers and employs 1,700 teachers in 24 cities.
After or perhaps while he pays down NOS debt, Minhong has a wish list which includes a couple of colleges. My bet is he wants an assured destination for his many students, thus driving up the value of the education the Chinese receive at his school in China.
No mystery there.
And I thought I had to live a life of poverty and sacrifice when I decided to become a teacher.
Oh, stupid me.
What do you think?
