China’s Railways Carry 5.1 Million on National Day

October 1st was China’s National Day and the beginning of a week long holiday. On 10/1 China saw a record 5.18 million passengers.

Last year the number was 4.55 million.

Both long and short distance traveled by train, China’s main transportation for travelers, on National Day.

In addition to the weeklong National Day holiday, China has two other week-long holidays – Spring Festival and May Day.

According to Xinhua these lengthy holidays were initiated to stimulate domestic consumption. Let’s see, if the average Chinese spends a $1000 in one week during a week long holiday….

what is $1000 x 5.1 million travelers x 3 week-long holidays = a lot of money.

I wonder if other countries should consider giving their employees/workers three week-long vacations.

What do you think?
