China’s Internet Users by the Numbers

The number of Internet users in China has grown to 162 million, up 33% from last year.

More than one in four (27.3%) use their mobile phones to surf the Web.

Mainland-based websites now number 9.18 million.

The most popular uses are search engines and reading news was second (76.3%).

Instant messaging was second with 69.% using QQ or MSN type tools everyday.chinese.internet.user.jpg

55.4% use email.

Viewing and downloading videos or

movies – 68.5%

50% played games online.

Primary and secondary students were reached at 36.7%, double last year's figure making it possible for 60 million of China's 200 million students to go online.

The average time online for students – 11.6 hours compared to 15 hours last year.

Wait till the newbies get used to surfing…it'll go back up.
