China’s Coal Industry Facing a Deep Dark Hole

Posted by Bill Belew on November 29th, 2006 in All about China | No Comments

China’s coal industry is producing about three billion tons. Pretty good?

Not so good.

Though China’s coal output has doubled since 1996, but exports are falling, down 13.6% from last year.

And….China’s coal demand is expected to be only 2.5 billion tons in 2010.

Uh…where will the other 500 million tons be going?

This is a problem for the coal industry, of course. Especially since China is buying and building more nuclear power plants…and fewer countries are depending on coal from China.

Investing in China? Stay away from the coal industry.

What do you think?
