China, US Establish Defense Hotline
Trust between the United States and China is growing.…uh, maybe.
The two nations will soon set up a long-awaited defense hotline.
Bush, "Get me Hu on the phone. We need Jack Bauer to get us out of this mess."
China and the US have a huge economic and trade relationship, why shouldn't they also be able to exchange hot military issues as well?
China's military budget will grow by 17.8% in 2007 to about $44.9 billion, less than one eighth of the US budget. 1/10th? And half of the Chinese budget goes to salaries and pensions. The US budget is being consumed in Iraq.![]()
China will also buy new uniforms and build more military schools.
Hu, "Quick, I need Bush on the phone to be sure there are no objections to our opening a new school."
Most likely the first phone call to be exchanged will have to do with the Iranian government…or perhaps North Korean.
Let's hope the hotline NEVER needs to be use.
Do you think the US and China are learning to trust one another?
