China Sets World Records On Top of The World – China-Tibet Railway
I thought the Three-Gorges Dam was amazing…well, it is amazing. But the China-Tibet has its own brand of amazing.
A record 550 kilometers (330 miles) of the tracks run on frozen earth.
The tracks are 5,068 meters (16,600 ft) above sea level. Mt. Fuji is abt. 3700 meters. The tallest mountain in North America is only 14,000 some feet.
The Tanggula Railway station is the highest railway staion in the word.
The tunnel through Fenguoshan at 4,905 meters (16,000 ft) is the world’s most elevated tunnel AND on frozen earth.
The Kunlun tunnel at 1,668 meters (1+ miles) is the world’s longest tunnel on frozen earth.
One Indian Newspaper, "Business Standard" calls this railroad and the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtse – "China’s Public Miracles."
This is high praise from a country that would love to beat China in anything and at all cost.
Great job, China!
