China Says “High Food Prices are Not Our Fault”
China's agricultural minister says that developing countries are not at fault for the rising demand for food and surge in food prices.
Developed countries blame India and China for the global food crisis.
"We can't help it because we are nearly half the global population and we are hungry," says Kanwar Jeet and Wang.
The Chinese minister says the surge in food prices is caused by:
1. rising crude prices
2. climate change
3. speculation
Another factor, says Sun, is the threat from biofuels. Corn, for example, is being used to create biofuel for machines instead of humans.
China is able to provide for its 1.3 billion people mostly from its domestic production.
It's that word 'mostly' that bothers me. When 1.3 million people need something that doesn't fall into the mostly category, it upsets the cart.
Is it enough for China to be satisfied with just caring for its own?
