China Opens up World’s Longest Double Tube Highway
China opened up the world's longest double-tube, four-lane highway today…it's 18 kilometers (11.2 miles long.)
I remember when Japan opened up its 10.9 kilo tube between my home prefecture of Niigata and Gunma. It cut driving time to Tokyo to about 3-4 hours from 10+.
China's tunnel begins in Qingcha, Xi'an City and ends in Yingpan, Shangluo City in Shaanxi Province.
The tunnel runs through the Qinling Mountains and took almost 5 years and $410 million to build.
The tunnel is part of the national highway linking north China's Inner Mongolia and south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
I always thought I would like to meet "Mr. Tunnel."
Who was the first guy to think, "We don't have to go around this mountain. We can just dig a hole and go through it."
He or she, would be my kind of person.
What do you think?
