China, India, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa Invited to G-8 Summit
The Summit of Group of Eight industrialize nations, G8 Summit for short is meeting in Heiligendamm, Germany from June 6-8.
Five other countries major developing countries have been invited. They are:
1. China,
2. India,
3. Brazil,
4. Mexico and
5. South Africa
These countries and the the G-8 Group, Britain, Germany, Italy, United States, Russia, Japan, France and Canada will discuss five themes:
1. climate policy,
2. fuel energy,
3. intellectual property right (IPR) protection,
4. investment liberalization and
5. the development of Africa,
The weather and Africa are being given priority.
China's President Hu will be attending his fourth summit and will get to elaborate on China's position regarding global warming.
Prior to President Hu's visit, the Chinese government released a position paper for the G8 meetings.
On Africa….
"China and African countries have had a very friendly, brotherly partnership since the establishment of New China, since the 1950s, and that has continued up to now."
On the Climate -
"China's population is one-fifth of the global population, which means one out of five of the world's people affected by climate change will be in China.
"That is why the Chinese government takes this issue very seriously… We need to base our development on energy that is secure and sustainable."
Perhaps it is just a matter of time before China gets to join this group, no?
