Citic Group said it will 3-5 years to convert Beijing Olympic National Stadium “Bird’s Nest” into an entertainment and shopping center. Sporting games and cultural events will happen…but so will lots of shopping…provided people have money.

The “Bird’s Nest” is a tourist draw. Citic Group wants to sell ’stuff’ while people are looking and being entertained.

It will also actively hold sports games and entertainment performances, said the company, adding that it seeks to further promote the brand of the National Stadium, the major venue for the Beijing Olympics.

A private company was created by Citic Group -  Beijing Urban Construction Group and Golden State Holding Group Corporation for the purpose of operating the “Bird’s Nest” business.

The National Stadium is 250,000-square-meter and costs 60 million yuan (about 8.82 million U.S. dollars) to make a profit. That’s a lot of Panda Poop to be used to make souveneirs that need to be sold, eh?
