Bible Too Obscene for Hong Kong
There's a contradiction in terms in this report…a Hong Kong decency watchdog, Television and Entertainments Licensing Authority (TELA), which oversees the publishing industry, has been 'flooded' with obscenity complaints about the Bible.
The actual number is 208. What is Hong Kong's population? 6 million? That's about one person in 29,000 are complaining.
The group complained about violence (yup, the Bible has that), rape (has that, too) and cannibalism (nope, don't know about that.) It does have incest, betrayal, and a host of other evil doing that goes on…as well as hope, deliverance, love and the good things.
TELA suspects that a Chinese-language website is behind this sudden push to get readers to pressure TELA to classify the Christian holy book as and indecent publication.
If the Bible gets tossed out…one wonders, what will people read?
