I recall that there was a four-team "pro" league that received coaching and sponsorship from MLB and was playing in the summer of 2004. Tianjin, Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou all had teams made up of Chinese players with two or three ringers from the US or Latin America and, if memory serves, some of the teams had coaches from Taiwan.

Is the league still around?

Ironically, China makes 90% of the baseballs played by the rest of the world. Not only MLB need to go to China, they need to promote a chinese ball player who plays very well in the major league.
I am a chinese immigrant and my son plays baseball very well at age of 8. I hope they will promote my son as Yao Ming of baseball.
