600 million flowers sold in Shanghai this year = 20 flowers/sec

It used to be that Tokyo was king of 'flower power' in Asia.

Not any more…Shanghai claims the crown this year with more than 600 million flowers sold in the city this year.

That comes to 20 flowers being bought EVERY SECOND around the clock in China's largest city.

And the best part for China's flower sellers is that Dongzhi – First Day of Winter, Christmas and the non-Chinese New Year's is still coming.flower-market.jpg

Unfortunately for China's flower growers, imported flowers are the most popular.

To be sure, someone has their eye on improving the quality of Chinese flowers to keep that from being the case in future years.

Flowers are big business, too.
