4 Ways Multinationals Violate Social Responsibility in China
If a multinational is going to do business in a socialist/communist country then it ought to be prepared to meet its social responsibilities. No?
Southern Weekly tracked 126 "Fortune 500" companies that are doing business in China.
These companies have produced outstanding:
1. financial results
2. export volume
3. pre-tax profit.
But, all that is good stops there.
Of those 126 companies:
1. 46% had refused to comply with the law to establish labor unions.
2. 15.9% had seriously damaged the local environment.
3. 29.5% had provided substandard services or commodities
4. An unknowned number had resorted to bribing government officials or management in other companies.
So far, 450 of the top 500 multinationals have gone to China to do business. Of the 126 surveyed, not so good feedback.
Gee, aren’t we glad to have these ‘fine’ companies representing social awareness in China for us?
What do you think?
