4 + 4 + 2 + 5 = Improved Sino-Japanese Ecomomic Ties
There are four problems in Sino-Japanese economic ties that Beijing wants to address:
1. a slowdown in the growth rate of bilateral trade,
2. unsatisfactory business environment,
3. obstacles in technological cooperation
4. fluctuation in Japanese investment in China
China wants Japan to reconsider China in four areas:
1. its market economy status,
2. trade conditions,
3. export of high and new technologies
4. exchange of personnel,
China's vice-premier wants to improve exchanges in two areas:
1. technological exchanges in energy-saving and environmental protection
2. working more closely on global and regional economic issues.
China could:
1. promote introduction of Japanese technologies through pilot projects in the country.
2. increase investment in each other's countries,
3. cooperate in the fields of equipment manufacturing, information technology, logistics and hi-tech products.
4. hold more talks on product quality standards
5. work for better protection of intellectual property rights to improve the trade and investment environment
Japan is China's third largest trade partner and second largest source foreign direct investment.
China is Japan's largest trade partner and one of Japan's fastest growing export markets.
