3 Ways to get 300 million moviegoers a year – at least
China's film industry expects that every Chinese will see at least one movie in five years….and many of them more than once.
The president of the China Film Group Corporation, made the remarks while visiting the Communication University of China in Beijing.
China's film industry is growing…though it made less in one year ($340 million) in 2006 than some Hollywood films make in a month – Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Shrek 3….
Most of the movie goers live in the city and in the past government policy was to show movies for free in the countryside.
Solution…
1. more theaters in the big cities – number of cinemas in Beijing will increase four fold by the end of this year.
2. digital cinemas with smaller screens in medium-sized cities and lower ticket prices.
3. attaching advertisements to movies shown for free in the rural areas. Film makers won't have to think non-profit anymore.
300-500 million moviegoers a year x ticket prices = a whole lot of money, better movies, more cinemas, more moviegoers, more money, more, more, more….
Sounds like a workable formula to me.
How often do you go to the cinema?
