$100 Left on Table for Potential Burglars

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 9 April 2007No Comment

Residents of southern China are known to leave money on the kitchen table or some other obvious place …for burglars.

The amount is $100-125.

The, um, logic is that if a would-be burglar finds the money, the rest of the house and the residents will be left alone.

Effectively, the homeowner is buying no threats to their lives and other valuables.

But…what would keep the burglar from coming back for such easy money?

Zhuhai citizens think that leaving a letter pleading with the crook to leave them alone will do the trick.burglar.gif

"Dear Burglar,

Welcome to my home. There is nothing of value here and my wife and daughter are too ugly to warrant your attention. However, so as to not waste your time, I have prepared a small 'gift' for you. Thank you so much for leaving us alone. Oh, and if you have any special requests for future visits, leave a note. Have a good night."
