Not an inconsequential amount of money, but in the grand scheme of political spending it wasn't that much. I'm afraid it doesn't rank very high on the shenanigan scale...especially since selling oneself is a primary job of every politician, regardless of party. And it sounds like you weren't exactly the target audience - the undecided voters who aren't yet sure they know what a black president would be like. And, if you were on the verge of becoming president, had money in the bank, and were facing the monumental task of breaking the color barrier in the White House, wouldn't you try to put yourself in as secure a position as possible? Of course you would. There's plenty of arguments to be had on whether the content of the infomercial was good, or whether it was the best way to get the message out, or whatever...but surely the intent isn't hard to understand. $4 million.
