Submitted by Bill Belew on Wednesday, 26 November 2008No Comment

How do you say Happy Thanksgiving in Japanese, Chinese, Russian? I could tel you here but then you still might not know. Ask a friend from one of these countries if the translation is wrong/right? Then ask them how to say it. Finally, look them in the eye and tell them from your heart – Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving

Arabic – سعيد عيد الشكر

Chinese – 感恩节快乐

Filipino – Masaya pasasalamat

Indonesian – Keje

Japanese – ハッピー感謝祭

Korean – 즐거운 추수 감사절

Russian – С Днем благодарения

How do you say Happy Thanksgiving in your native language?

that makes it pretty easy if you can already read the language.

Ok, let me help out with German… It’s pretty simple, there is no translation. There is no meaningful translation in pretty much any other language because Thanksgiving is celebrated on Nov 25th in the US only. Even those bloody Canadians, who at least know that celebration, don’t use the same date.

    Really, what’s the point?

Would you care if a Muslim wishes you a “Blessed Ramadan”?

Sorry, this is an intercultural communication FAIL. Research other people’s holidays and comment on that. This is not Star Trek where each alien speaks English, no matter how much rubber and makeup it has in the face.
