Sapporo Beer Brewed from Barley Grown on the International Space Station
Sapporo Breweries has brewed 100 liters of beer using barley grown from seeds cultivated during five months on the International Space Station.
Yeah, real beer brewed from out of this world…literally.
Sapporo will hold a drawing at six of its breweries and 60 luck winners will get a taste in January, ‘09. Whatever is left will be sold for prices also out of this world, no doubt. Price has not been disclosed.
Barley was grown on the space station because the plant requires less water than wheat or rice and can be cultivated as a cereal crop.
Sapporo is using the beer for promotional purposes (It’s always about the money) and admits that the space brew tastes no different than Earth-based brew.
Ah…and this explains why there are only 100 liters to be given away instead of the 1,000 liters they had planned on.
BTW, did these guys read this sign about Japanese needing a manner poster to know where to get drunk?
