Toyota iQ Car Gets Rear-Collision Airbag

Posted by Bill Belew on October 3rd, 2008 in All about India | 4 Comments

Toyota’s super cute, ultracompact iQ, no relation to your iPod or iPhone, will get a rear-end collision air bag. That way, if it gets bumped in the rear the air bag will spring open and the car will be bounced instead of smashed.

The airbag, of course, is to protect passengers in the back seat. Warning – only Asian-sized passengers can fit in the back seat.

The airbag is above the rear window and expands like a curtain. The force to the head is expected to be reduced by half.

The iQ is about 3 meters long (10′) or 1.3 feet shorter than a mini car.

Cool. Toyota as always rules. Such mini, comfortable and safety cars are practical in big cities.

Thanks for the information. Passenger safety is a big issue worldwide. In many Asian countries, road accidents are part of everyday life and still most people in Asia do not own a car. So, I am really looking forward to this feature of Toyota. Toyota is having a great time in its fight against GM.

I don’t know about only Asian sized passengers fitting in the back seats. These guys in this video don’t look that small.
