It used to be that schools let out in the summer so that there could be help available on the farm. It's not that way anymore, of course. Summer is a time for parents to wish their kids were back in school because they don't know what to do with them.
University students in China will get out of classes a month early this summer - to accomodate the Beijing Games which will be held in August.
Beijing wants all the kids to go home one month early. Career service offices at local colleges are wondering where they are going to send the kids.
China will graduate a record number of students this year - 5.59 million. And Beijing has the most colleges, except maybe for Shanghai.
The Olympics will create jobs for about 10 days + cleanup.
After that, it's every grad for themselves.
The Games organizers expect to make good use of some 100,000 volunteers, mostly college students. Some colleges are expected to award school credit for the service.
For most...it's just a month extra time for hanging out.
