It seems China has been in the business of creating fakes for sometime now.
Some also try to fake being in the business of being fake.
Huh!?
Professional art and antique appraisers estimate that 90% of some 130 items they examined at a free public appraisal in the city of Wuhan were fake.
"What!?? I paid good money for that old piece of China."
"Most citizens lack professional knowledge about antiques and that leads directly to the collect of counterfeits," said the head of the Collectors Association.
Most shoppers don't care about counterfeits. And, too many Chinese companies are still inclined to keep on making fakes, thank you.
Still, at this particular auction, a string of court beads worth Y100,000 ($13,930) and a piece of embroidery were found to be from the Qing Dynasty.
It's only worth that much if somebody pays for it.
Meanwhile, there's a small factory in Hubei that is doing its best to reproduce those two antiques and sell them for a discount.
