
Just 3 days after the beginning of the New Year 2008, China has already set some of its economic and social goals for this year.
1. Beijing will host the 29th Summer Olympic Games starting on Aug. 8 and the
2. Paralympics on Sept. 6, with the 'One world, One dream' logo.
3. China is also set to prevent the economy from becoming overheated and to guard against a shift from structural price rises to inflation.
4. China will also use tighter monetary policies and prudent fiscal policies to ensure structural adjustment and uniform economic development.
5. China has decided to convene the first plenary session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) on March 5, 2008, during which top state and government leaders will be elected.
6. New laws will also take effect to promote social justice and harmony.
7. From Tuesday, a corporate income tax law took effect, set to unify income tax rate for domestic and foreign companies at 25 percent.
8. China's third manned space mission Shenzhou VII is scheduled to be launched in 2008.
9. Chinese President Hu Jintao will visit Japan this spring, first time in a decade.
