China's sex industry was virtually non-existent around 25 years ago.
However, now it is now booming all around the country.
Most sex workers are migrants, part of the estimated 120 to 300 million people who had left China’s countryside in search of better-paying jobs in one of the big cities.
Prostitution is often hidden in hair salons, massage parlors and karaoke bars.
A friend of mind took me to for a 'relaxing massage' once after a long hard week of work. Sure enough, there was more offered than just a massage.
Many people question if China’s government should someday legalize prostitution.
Why -
1. At the current rate of growth the problem could easily spiral out of control.
2. Legalization of prostitution can help government regulate the industry.
3. The measure would also bring other benefits in the protection of women and fight against HIV/AIDS.
4. Legalizing prostitution would also prevent underground prostitution.
There’s hope that the Chinese government, with its pragmatic point of view, will eventually legalize prostitution.
This measure will also bring some negative impact on society.
What do you think the government should do?
