Learn Chinese - 两面派Two Faced Character
两 liang 面 mian 派 pai is a two faced character.
A certain general was welcomed by the citizens of a small town.
As he was coming in, the wind blew the welcome sign and the general saw on the reverse side a welcome for his opponent.
The general realized that the citizens were playing both sides.
The two sides of the sign came to mean that the people had two characters.
It meant that people had feet in two camps, or curried favor on two sides.
In the office space, do you think we might find such people playing both sides?
