Nobody ever beat Emil Zatopec of Czechoslavakia, not even Alain Mimoun of France.
That is, until it mattered.
Mimoun went on to beat the great Zatopek in the marathon after passing him halfway through the race.
At the finish line, the Frenchman waited for his old friend who came in sixth.
