
Florence Griffith Joyner "Flojo."
After retiring at the age of 19 and going to work as a bank teller to help support her family, Flojo was rediscovered by sprint coach Bob Kersee and given a hand to get into UCLA.
Flojo set the world record of 10.49 in the US Olympic trials then won the 100m dash in the Olympics twice breaking the Olympic record.
She also twice broke the world record in the 200m dash as well.
She won a third gold medal in the 4x100m and a silver in the 4x400m.
10 years later, at the age of 38, she died in her sleep of an epileptic seizure that caused her to suffocate.![]()
