Olympic Stars - Mexico City 1968 - Bob Beamon
Bob Beamon of the US was the favorite in the long jump.
He showed them why on his first jump. It was so far that the optical measuring device slid off its rail trying to reach Beamon's point of impact.
The jump of 8.90 meters was a full 55 centimeters longer than the previous world record.
That's a 6% jump.
The record stood for nearly 30 years.
